Flashback Friday

Hello all! Hope you all enjoyed 2 relaxing cold weather days, but that doesn’t mean you can stop being productive! We have less than 3 weeks before the end of the quarter so we have to do our best to keep up the motivation and keep those good grades!!! Don’t be a slacker- get your work done! Of course, homework is listed below 🙂

In case you didn’t know, I would like to test who is faithfully following the website. I am offering a special field trip for the top 5 students from each of my classes. On Thursday, Feb. 12, I will be taking my top 20 students on a trip to Navy Pier at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater to see a performance of Macbeth and to have lunch on the pier. It should make for a pretty awesome day!

Here is the Criteria:

1) You must have no missing assignments.

2) You must have above 95% attendance. (Less than 5 days of absences)

3) You must answer the daily question posted on the website. This will also count as Extra credit towards missing work and low grades.

Today’s Daily Question: Flashback to the first time you heard anyone talk about Shakespeare. I’ll go first, There was this show called the Brady Bunch and one of the daughter’s on the show was auditioning for the play Romeo and Juliet. She tried out for the part of Juliet and didn’t get it, but I remember being a kid and thinking, hmmm… I wonder what that is about… It is now one of my favorite stories. All the love and betrayal and teenage angst and rebellion. Of course, drama, drama, drama… good stuff 😉

I will announce winners at the end of the quarter Jan. 29! Good luck!!!

p.s. This blog is dedicated to Crispin in 1st period and Matthew in 4th period! See… there is something IMPORTANT on here!!!

About jvpilar

Here's a little info about your teacher. I worked really hard to become your teacher. I went to UIC to get a degree in English, but decided to work as a writer in California. While I was there I realized I would rather work with kids than work in an office all day, so I decided to come back to Chicago and become a licensed, fully certified teacher. I earned a Masters Degree in Teaching and Education from Dominican University and got my first job at Hancock. During my 4 years at Hancock, I have taught English at every grade level. I started the Culinary Club and also sponsor BuildOn, both clubs do community service projects all over the city. I also have a cat named Duke that I rescued during one of our BuildOn service learning projects and a dog named Duchess.

The first time I heard someone talk about Shakespeare was that little phrase “to be or not to be”

  3. Jennifer Garcia

The first time I heard about Shakespeare was when my sister told me she was reading a book by him. She said it was difficult to read.

  4. Alondra

What I’ve heard of Shakespeare was that it was a very tragic love story!

  5. Saul Bautista

I don’t remember exactly when I heard of him but I know it was someone talking about Romeo and Juliet too. They said it is the best play they saw ever and I didn’t really care so I didn’t say anything

  6. Karissa Urbina

I also first heard of Shakespeare from a tv show. It was Hannah Montana actually, she had to reenact the play in front of the whole class and she hated it because it was a love story.

  7. it was in 3rd grade my teacher brought up the name and i wondered who that person was because his name was a little difficult to say.

The first time heard about Shakespeare was in the sixth grade when my homeroom teacher introduced us to the story romeo and Juliet. Before that I only knew about the story and not who wrote it. I always thought Shakespeare was a funny name for an author .
