Welcome to 2015 :)

Hello all! Hope you all enjoyed a relaxing and joyful Holiday season! I’m hoping the cold doesn’t freeze us all, but we have 3 weeks before the end of the quarter so we have to do our best to keep up the motivation and get those good grades!!!

In case you didn’t know, I would like to test who is faithfully following the website. I am offering a special field trip for the top 5 students from each of my classes. On Thursday, Feb. 12, I will be taking my top 20 students on a trip to Navy Pier at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater to see a performance of Macbeth and to have lunch on the pier. It should make for a pretty awesome day!

Here is the Criteria:

1) You must have no missing assignments.

2) You must have above 95% attendance. (Less than 5 days of absences)

3) You must answer the daily question posted on the website. This will also count as Extra credit towards missing work and low grades.

Daily E.C. Question: Name one play by William Shakespeare in the comment section and what you remember about it.  I’ll go first, my favorite Shakespeare play is Othello. The play is about jealousy and racism. Drama, drama, drama. Love it.

I will announce winners at the end of the quarter Jan. 29! Good luck!!!

About jvpilar

Here's a little info about your teacher. I worked really hard to become your teacher. I went to UIC to get a degree in English, but decided to work as a writer in California. While I was there I realized I would rather work with kids than work in an office all day, so I decided to come back to Chicago and become a licensed, fully certified teacher. I earned a Masters Degree in Teaching and Education from Dominican University and got my first job at Hancock. During my 4 years at Hancock, I have taught English at every grade level. I started the Culinary Club and also sponsor BuildOn, both clubs do community service projects all over the city. I also have a cat named Duke that I rescued during one of our BuildOn service learning projects and a dog named Duchess.

One Shakespeare play that I hear is very popular is Macbeth. I’m not necessarily sure what it’s about exactly which is pretty sad since everyone knows about it but I hear very good things about the play and I’ll probably end up doing research on it.

The Shakespeare that heard of the most is called Hamlet. It’s about prince that want revenge because his uncle kill princes father, and marry mother. I did a little research while doing this

One play by Shakespeare I remember is Romeo And Juliet. It was about two lovers whose fathers wanted to keep them separated forever but Romeo And Juliet’s answer was to only die together and live that way.

“The Comedy of Errors” was one of Shakespeare’s first plays which I believe was about a merchant who lands in a country where people of his kind are banned. I think he gets sentenced to death by the duke of the country.

  8. Fabiola Angulo

Romeo and Juliet is one of my favorite. Its about love and ends in a tragic.

A William Shakespeare I like and remember reading is the play called “King Lear” it’s mostly about King Lear deciding to what daughter he’ll give the the biggest part of throne too since he doesn’t have a son. & in order to decide that he plays a game with them to see who loves him the most, and Two daughters play with him but the nice daughter decided not to play because she said the words aren’t enough to show how much she really loves him,and the king got mad. I like this play because it shows how a persons appearance can fool a person.

I think Romeo and Juliet because it was 2 people from different worlds that fell in love with each other and forgetting there differences.
