Are you ready for Progress Reports?

We’ve reached the final leg of our race towards the end of the school year.  A few more weeks and you will officially be Sophomores and Juniors! You should be very proud of the work you’ve been doing.  In fact, check it out- we were on the news! You’ve done so well keeping up with your grades that Fox news featured Hancock for our high On-Track to Graduate rate! So now that we have a reputation to uphold in Chicago Land, it’s your job to exceed the expectations!

Progress reports for Quarter 4 will be processed on Friday 5/2/2014, so please keep that in mind as we work diligently towards our end of the year goals! Please see me if there are any assignments you are missing or grades that you feel need improvement. Continue the hard work as we reach the final stretch towards SUMMER.


Read Chapters 24-25 of To Kill A Mockingbird
• Mark any Q and C’s with your post-its while you read.

Please read Ch.5 pages 70-78

Complete the Part 1 Review (Pop quiz) from Friday, if you haven’t done so already.

For each Mirabal sister, complete the following:

1)Write a description of her character traits and her role in the Mirabel family. Use the text to support your answer.

2)Analyze how her life is changing because of Trujillo. Give one example from the text and explain.

Then, choose one of the following for each sister.

1)Explain how she experiences freedom. Give an example from the text to support your answer and explain how this impacts her positively and negatively. OR…

Explain how fear motivates this sister’s freedom. Use the text to support your answer


  • GRADES for 4th QUARTER Progress Reports are due NEXT WEEK FRIDAY MAY 2!!!
  • CHECK YOUR GRADES AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE!!! You can always raise your grade by going to lunch tutoring or Scholar Hour. See me for more details and a pass. Then, I will send you down during lunch or after school.
  • Build On/ Cooking Club Meeting Monday to prepare for the Hostel Trip 4/29/2014!

Here's a little info about your teacher. I worked really hard to become your teacher. I went to UIC to get a degree in English, but decided to work as a writer in California. While I was there I realized I would rather work with kids than work in an office all day, so I decided to come back to Chicago and become a licensed, fully certified teacher. I earned a Masters Degree in Teaching and Education from Dominican University and got my first job at Hancock. During my 4 years at Hancock, I have taught English at every grade level. I started the Culinary Club and also sponsor BuildOn, both clubs do community service projects all over the city. I also have a cat named Duke that I rescued during one of our BuildOn service learning projects and a dog named Duchess.
