Happy Monday!

Hi all!  I’m so sorry I couldn’t be with you today!  I hope you were kind to the substitute and used your time wisely so you could get caught up with your reading and writing.  Let’s continue to work towards our goals and achieve academic success.

Also remember, we are starting from scratch. So keep that great start going by completing assignments, reading ahead, and staying focused on your goals! See you tomorrow!!!


Make sure you have read to page 215 of Zeitoun.
Complete the Guided Reading Questions for pages 205-215. (I will collect this TOMORROW)

Don’t forget well will still have a QUIZ tomorrow! Be prepared!


Complete sections B and C of the Memoir Performance Task. (This was due today.  I will check this in tomorrow.)

Complete Dialogue practice Worksheet.  (This was given to you by the Substitute today.)

Write the INTRODUCTION to the first draft of your memoir (I will check this in tomorrow). Think about the types of leads we discussed in class when we looked at the models.  How will you hook your reader?  Be ready for Writer’s Workshop tomorrow !


  • CHECK YOUR GRADES AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE!!! You can always raise your grade by going to lunch tutoring or Scholar Hour. See me for more details and a pass. Then, I will send you down during lunch or after school.
  • Build On Meeting Tuesday!
  • Culinary Club will meet Thursday February 5. I already have all 15 slots filled, but you can still turn in your signed slips just in case people cancel.

Here's a little info about your teacher. I worked really hard to become your teacher. I went to UIC to get a degree in English, but decided to work as a writer in California. While I was there I realized I would rather work with kids than work in an office all day, so I decided to come back to Chicago and become a licensed, fully certified teacher. I earned a Masters Degree in Teaching and Education from Dominican University and got my first job at Hancock. During my 4 years at Hancock, I have taught English at every grade level. I started the Culinary Club and also sponsor BuildOn, both clubs do community service projects all over the city. I also have a cat named Duke that I rescued during one of our BuildOn service learning projects and a dog named Duchess.
